WOW!

Yesterday was a great day for the entire VCC family. We would like to thank all of the volunteers and community partners that make it possible for us to do the important work of addressing the root causes of poverty in our community.

With the help of Dave Taylor, Independent MLA for Calgary Currie we were able to help motivate the Standing Committee on the Economy to unanimously recommend a Poverty Reduction Strategy for Alberta.

This is only one step in a long journey to implementing a successful and meaningful Poverty Reduction Strategy for Alberta and we will surely need all of your continued support as we move closer to ending poverty in Alberta. 

Here is the wording of the motion that passed yesterday.

“That, in the interests of developing longer-term solutions than can be achieved thru minimum wage policy alone, the Government of Alberta recognize the need for a designed-in-Alberta poverty reduction strategy, and that it study best practices in other jurisdictions and engage in broad-based public consultations in order to create the strategy. “
